+when in  fact those words were concepts he explored  in private with his close associates

+how the "facts" of the circumstances surrounding the murder and the "mathematical" pieces of evidence seem to prove mitya's guilt, when the truth of what happened is really quite different. falsely believing himself to have murdered grigory makes him act in a way that paints him with guilt
+overall parallels between these proofs and the place of scientific reason in the world compared with religion

+people on the outside believing smerdyakov to be an imbecile while in reality he teases and manipulates ivan, seen to be the most clever of alll the brothers. he even pierces ivan from beyond the grave with his suicide note stating that he does it
